Jacob Fitzgerald

Jacob Fitzgerald is a countertenor based in London, specialising in liturgical music and oratorio. Recent solo appearances include Mozart Requiem (2025, Putney Choral Society, Jamie Powe), Bach St John Passion (2025, Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, Max Barley), Handel Messiah (2024, Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, Max Barley), and Mozart Coronation Mass (2024, Royal Choral Society, Richard Cooke). Jacob has also appeared as a recitalist with pianist Ben Markovic at St Mary's Church, Barnes (April 2024), presenting a programme of English and German song, and with Tom Primrose, as a Young Artist at Southrepps Music Festival (July 2023), with a programme of Quilter and Delius.

As a choral singer, recent highlights include singing as a consort member in Bach St Matthew Passion (2025, London Handel Festival, Richard Gowers), Haydn Creation (2024, Scherzo Ensemble / Longhope Opera, Sinfonia Smith Square, Matthew O'Keefe), Bach St John Passion (2024, Oxford Bach Soloists, St James' Picadilly, Tom Hammond-Davies), and Handel Messiah (2023Platinum Consort, Sinfonia Smith Square, Scott Inglis-Kidger). Jacob can also be heard on CD recordings and film soundtracks, including two upcoming releases with Netflix and Universal.

 

Jacob graduated with a 1st BMus (Hons) in musicology and vocal performance from King's College London, where he held a choral scholarship in the chapel choir, directed by Joseph Fort. While studying for his degree, Jacob received lessons at the Royal Academy of Music with John Lattimore and Alex Ashworth. Jacob has a diploma in voice (DipARSM) and a B2 in German Language from the Goethe Institut, Berlin. 

 

Jacob has also held choral scholarships with Hereford Cathedral Choir (2021/22) directed by Geraint Bowen, and the Oxford Bach Soloists (2023/24) directed by Tom Hammond-Davies, with whom he took part as a consort singer and step-out soloist in performances of Bach cantatas BWV 18, 19, 50, 126, 130, 149, St John Passion and Weihnachts-Oratorium. Jacob has greatly benefitted from masterclasses with, amongst others, Ben Johnson, James Platt, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Meili Li, and German language coaching from Gerhard Gall and Lorna Price.

 

On the London choral circuit, Jacob frequently deputises with many of the foremost church and synagogue choirs, such as at the Brompton Oratory; Temple Church; St Bride's Church, Fleet Street; St James' Palace, Chapel Royal; and Hampstead Parish Church.
